John Stezaker named winner of the Deutsche Börse prize

“When people say I'm not a real photographer, I tell them I work with the medium rather than in it. In the internet age, it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between the producers and the consumers of images. I see my work as merging these two worlds.” - John Stezaker

One of our favourite collagists was was named winner of the £30,000 Deutsche Börse prize at a ceremony in London at the beginning of September. We like this comment from Brett Rogers, director of the Photographers' Gallery: "I'm thrilled... he really has been unrecognised for such a long time and he is obviously just having his moment. He has been very influential on the next generation and there does seem to be a new generation interested in collage."
